-Photo by Getty Images-At a private ceremony held in Chicago, to mourn the loss of her mother, brother and nephew, Jennifer Hudson spent a few minutes by each of their caskets before leaning down and kissing her mom goodbye.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Jennifer was joined at the service by fellow American Idol contestant Fantasia Barrino, who dedicated the gospel song “Your Grace and Mercy” to Jen and her family.
Rev. Jesse Jackson and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley also attended, both speaking at the memorial for Darnell Donerson, Jason Hudson and Julian King. And, when the funeral had ended, a horse-drawn carriage led the procession to the cemetery.
Now comes the even harder part for Jen, as she has to figure out how to go back to her normal life, without the people she loved most. Our thoughts, prayers and love go out to her and her family.

Today is Election Day here in the US and altho many States have allowed their citizens the ability to vote early, the first Tuesday in November of a Presidential Election Year is the official Election Day. At 12AM ET, the small hamlet of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire was the “first in the nation” to open their polls and allow their citizens to vote. Because of the small number of voters there, the results were made known mere moments after the voting opened. Altho Dixville Notch is traditionally heavily Repbulican the Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama, won by a landslide … at least by Dixville Notch standards:
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama emerged victorious in the first election returns of the 2008 presidential race, winning 15 of 21 votes cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. People in the village in New Hampshire’s northeast corner voted just after [...]

First things first — this is a ridiculously gorgeous photo of Carrie Underwood on the cover of the new issue of Elle.
Okay, now for the juice — Carrie says that she’s sorry for making Jessica Simpson mad by telling the world that Jess’ boyfriend/Carrie’s ex Tony Romo still calls the American Idol winner.
“It was something that was said in passing, and I would never mean to say anything to hurt anybody or stir up anything, because I’m just not about drama…at all,” Carrie told the mag.
Jessica reacted by saying that there was no way her man was calling Carrie — and that she had looked at his call log to find out the truth.
And Carrie says she gets why Jess was pissed at her. “I might be mad too if somebody said my boyfriend was calling some other girl,” she said. “So I can definitely see where she would be [...]

-Photo by Getty Images-I almost feel like I’ve been broken up with.
Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas has done the unthinkable (in my mind, anyway) and broke off her engagement to snowboarder Jesse Csincsak.
Jesse opened up to Extra, in video that will break your heart, about how DeAnna did the dumping.
“We took time apart… She came back to Colorado and told me, ‘I love you, but I’m not in love with you.’ …I picked her up from the airport and she told me while I was getting her bags.”
Deanna had picked Jesse to spend her life with at the end of her time on the reality series, and the couple had talked about getting married in the Bahamas, but Jess says DeAnna just gave up on him.
“DeAnna said, ‘I’m not willing to try anymore.’ She had a different idea. I can’t argue with her feelings… She’s the only one who knows how she [...]

Director Baz Luhrman’s historical epic/romance/tourism ad Australia is set to premiere Nov. 19 in its home country before opening wide here Nov. 26. It has a press junket in LA scheduled in between. And as of this writing, it has Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and $130 million worth of Fox’s Oscar hopes tied up in an unfinished bundle in Luhrmann’s editing bay. No one has seen much more than a couple stirring trailers and, according to Anne Thompson, an unfinished print that screened without effects for a lucky Oprah Winfrey audience (none of whom, of course, were critics). So with less than three weeks before the studio expects to introduce it to the world, what’s taking so long?
Last month Luhrmann told The Age that he was expecting to hand the 170-minute film to Fox one reel at a time while he tightened “mechanics of storytelling.” (The Kidman/Jackman romance, though? Totally [...]

A reader sent Towleroad this snapshot of the sky above Warner Bros. in Burbank, probably the largest and most nausea-inducing “Yes on 8″ sign yet erected in the ongoing, Mormon-underwritten campaign to strip gay Californians of their Constitutional right to marry. Luckily, God got one look at the message and blew it away:
“Just now, leaving work at Warner Brothers in Burbank, CA, I was horrified to see a plane scarring the sky with a ‘vote yes on prop 8′ message, prefaced with something about traditional marriage that was already illegible.
It’s a breezy day out here, so the message was hardly readable for more than a minute or so. Let’s hope the proposition doesn’t even last that long tomorrow morning.”
We’re hearing reports of similar messages appearing in the skies above the Westside, too. As a counterpoint, we offer some blurry footage taken by Defamer video editrix emeritus Molly McAleer of Zooey [...]

When it was announced that Don Cheadle would be taking on Terrence Howard’s role in Iron Man 2, a simple explanation of “financial differences” (as well as an inability to get the War Machine costume sufficiently baby-wiped) was all that was forthcoming from the filmmakers’ side. Then, Howard spoke to NPR and compared the Marvel braintrust to a non-singing network of pimps, forcing the filmmaking team to take the gloves off. Now, in a discussion with EW, sources close to Marvel and director Jon Favreau leaked the real details behind Howard’s firing, and they involve bad acting and one very surprising salary:
Those with intimate knowledge of the situation suggest a far more dramatic backstory: Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid. That’s right: more than Gwyneth Paltrow. More than Jeff Bridges. More than Robert Downey Jr. And once the project [...]
